What’s great about using AI in your piano playing routine is its flexibility and personalization. Your AI assistant is available anytime, anywhere. You learn at your own pace, and feedback is always an option. Remember, though, that AI cannot replace a true piano teacher and should be treated as a useful helper.
Here are several ways to start using AI to learn piano:
Seamlessly tackle your to-dos and track budgets, projects, and calendars with AI-powered features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more.
Try now for freeAre you a beginner looking to start with the basics of piano? Begin with scales. Scales form the foundation of music; they provide the framework of notes a piece of music uses. They keep you in key and allow you to create natural and expressive phrases within a given musical context. To learn scales, you need to know how keys are built, and that begins with understanding the 12 chromatic pitches in Western music:
C, C#/Db, D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab, A, A#/Bb, B
These notes repeat in that order. If you were to play the standard C major scale, you would not play the sharps and flats, and instead:
C, D, E, F, G, A, B
Scales extend far beyond the standard C major, and AI provides exercises to master these scales, including major, minor, blues, Lydian mode, and so on! Here are some questions to ask generative AI to get you started learning scales:
Chords consist of two or more notes, and the number of chords you can learn is endless. Turn to AI to learn chords in different keys, explore chord inversions, and understand how they function within progressions. Learn how to build different chords and discover patterns, like major triads, major sevenths, diminished chords, and more, with AI prompts like:
Also, if you want to learn your favorite song’s chords, ask AI to find the right chords for a song. For example, ask AI, “Show me the piano chords for [song name].” It will identify the key the song is in, as well as the chord progressions.
Music theory aside, AI is great for general tips on piano playing. Ask questions like:
If you want AI to give feedback on your playing, record yourself and upload an audio file to your AI assistant. It will analyze your playing and suggest room for improvement, such as playing in key.
Curate lesson plans by supplementing your learning with online resources. Need to find sheet music? Let AI crawl the web to find what you’re looking for. Want to dive into music theory? Ask AI to recommend books or videos. Once you gather your resources, provide a list to AI (as well as your piano goals) to have it craft an online, personalized curriculum tailored to your level and interests.
Don’t stop at learning piano with AI; use it to master other instruments like the guitar and become a full-fledged musician. Next up, learn other ways musicians use AI.
