Restricting or removing violating content
Content and conduct that puts you or others at risk is not allowed, as outlined in our terms. If you violate our policies, you may have restrictions placed on your content or the use of your account. We have a range of restrictions that may vary based on the type of policy violation and the service where it took place. For example, we may decline to display your content, we may limit access to features or services, or for egregious or repeat violations, your Microsoft account may be suspended temporarily or permanently.
When we detect certain egregious content, like images of child sexual exploitation and abuse, we comply with laws requiring us to take down and report this content. For example, US law requires that we report apparent child sexual exploitation content to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
In making enforcement decisions, we strive to apply our policies consistently, objectively, and proportionately, which means we work to make the corrective action fit the violation. We consider your fundamental rights and the rights of others, including freedom of expression and privacy, when making our decisions. We also understand that some disturbing content may be newsworthy or important for educational or research purposes, and we take these factors into account when applying our policies.
Account suspension
Severe or repeated violations of our policies may result in account suspension.
Appeals
If you disagree with a moderation or enforcement action we made, you may appeal the decision.
